It’s Time to “Face” Air Pollution

We might not realize it, but the air we breathe can have a massive effect on our skin, i.e., the skin is the largest organ in the body. Environmental stress factors impact our skin in more ways than we think. Millions of people live in busy, crowded, and over-populated cities with numerous external factors. This is why we must take the necessary measures to protect our skin.

What is our skin up against?

Our skin goes up against various forms of air pollutants known as particulate matter (PM) that are displayed in diverse forms such as smoke, fog, and dust. This is even more challenging considering these particles are not visible to the eye and our skin absorbs them without us knowing. PM derives from industrial emissions such as diesel and fuel that spreads all around the cities, we live in.

What are the effects?

When these particles break the skin barrier, they can cause oxidative stress leading to inflammation, dullness, pigmentation, and various instances of wrinkles all hinting at early signs of aging.

In addition, unlike overexposure to UV rays that are revealed in the form of sunburns or rashes, the skin’s reactions to air pollution are developed over time and are not necessarily realized. Slowly, the skin’s collagen levels decrease, uneven skin tone arises, and firmness is lost – among all other symptoms.

People with skin conditions including Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis) are even more susceptible to reactions such as burning and inflammation. This is because their skin has already been jeopardized and therefore cannot protect itself like normal skin.

According to the National Library of Medicine, “In Taiwan, a nationwide survey involving over 30 thousand children demonstrated that flexural eczema was positively associated with exposure to traffic-related air pollutants” (Kim).

How can we help?

Our products contain herbal extracts with anti-oxidative and anti-inflammation properties that can neutralize the destructive pollution factors. In addition, our Botaniplex™ combinations contribute to the skin barrier integrity & strength, assisting our natural immune system combatants resist harmful pollutants.

Treatments all over the world are focused on marketing the effect of air pollution and other environmental factors to prevent penetration & further damage to the skin barrier and overall health.

At Kamedis, our Eczema Therapy line not only treats Eczema symptoms but is formulated with ingredients to help tackle those particles created as a result of air pollution.
